Tips & Tricks: Marshalls and T.J. Maxx

If you have never shopped at a Marshalls or T. J. Maxx, you are missing out. Probably more than half of my closest is from both these fabulous stores. If your one of those people who thinks that Marshalls and T. J. Maxx are full of inexpensive clothing or doesn't have fashion forward clothing, get over it; you obviously have never truly shopped there. The whole key to shopping at Marshalls and T. J. Maxx going in with an open mind. Even though you may have never heard of the brand you are trying on, you might find a hidden gem.

1. Go on a Thursday
I know it may seem strange to go on a Thursday, but it is when new merchandise is put out. You also beat the weekend shoppers.

2. If you see something you really like, buy it
Even though that Kate Spade bag you would love to have is not marked down to the price you would really like to pay, if you wait to make a decision, it will probably be gone. Pretty much everything that is a well-known or an expensive brand flies off the shelves and is gone within the day it is put out. If you purchase something and realize it's not what you want, you can always return it.

3. If you find a defect, tell the Sales Associate
Today, while shopping at Marshalls, I found the most amazing white dress with a crochet-look overlay. I was devastated to realize there was a rip in the crochet overlay. But insistent on purchasing the dress, I asked at the cashier if they could mark it down. They did! I got ten dollars off the $34.99 dress, and if my seamstress couldn't fix it, they said I could return it!

4. If you find something unique, try it on
One of my favorite parts of the shopping experience at Marshalls and T. J. Maxx is the wide variety of clothing. Each time I walk in, I find something I have never seen before. Even though it may look strange on the hanger, and completely not your style, it could look fabulous on! For example, the crochet dress I mentioned earlier looked so unique and different, but I never would have expected to like it. When I tried it on though, I was delighted.

Red Lips and Bobby Socks

One of my favorite ways to spend a summer day is brunch with my mom and shopping at Marshalls. Today, I channelled my inner 50s self with a cream orange dress and red lips. I think having a good red lipstick is essential. They are a great addition to an outfit you want to add a little spunk to. My favorite currently is this Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout. The color says on all day, even through meals, and the matte finish gives it a timeless look.

Seaing Seashells

My one goal on this trip to Palm Island: get a family picture. For some strange reason, my family never gets a picture with all of us in it. Palm Island has the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen, which would be the perfect backdrop. So, determined to make the perfect family portrait, I packed outfits and everything for my mom, dad, and brother. For myself, I brought along this Vineyard Vines shift dress I just ordered from their latest sale. When it arrived in the mail, I feel in love.

So, our family portrait quest began right after dinner. My father insisted on going to one of the many docks to retrieve his fishing net before we set out to the beach. However, while going way way out of the way to retrieve the fishing net, I noticed the golf cart was not only dying, but the power gage was past E. Naturally, I panicked. My family picture that I was so determined to take would be ruined because we would be stranded in a dead golf cart. On top of that, grey skies began rolling in.

Upon retrieving the net, we set out to back to our condo. Yes, we forfeited the idea of taking a picture. My new goal: make it back to the condo without having to walk in the rain. Our golf cart crawled the whole way back. We even made my brother get out and walk to try to go faster in the cart. By some miracle, though, we made it back to the condo without having to walk in the rain (well, except for my brother). Overall, it was a night to remember.

Bumble Bee

I am ecstatic to announce I am officially on Summer Break. After a year of AP's, exams, and endless busyness, I'm finally free. As a way to celebrate my new-found freedom, my family and I travelled to our family beach condo at Palm Island Resort. I absolutely love feeling the sand between my toes and the summer breeze through my hair. One of my favorite places on Palm Island has fallen trees right by the water. It is so picturesque! (They also make great places to sit!)

This dress is probably my favorite item Lilly Pulitzer has on their website. Out of all the various patterns, I believe this bumble bee pattern is a great combination of fun and flirty. The neon green highlighted with gold creates a classic summer look.

Winning Smiles

Lilly, with her Track and Field award, and me, with my tennis award

Yay!
I just adore this Vineyard Vines madras dress from the 2013 Derby collection. Especially because my favorite color is pink. I mean look at that bow! This dress has a timeless look and is super preppy! I paired my classy VV dress with a pair of my favorite GUESS heels, accented with a small bow.

Tonight was my Spring Sports Banquet for tennis season. Although I was injured for the most of the season, I was recognized with the Lancer Award, given for sportsmanship and character. I was completely taken by surprise!

Sunny and 75

For some strange reason, this weekend's weather has actually been bearable. Not only bearable, but quite lovely. It's seemingly impossible for May weather to be under a million degrees, but today we saw highs at 75.
In this post, I'm sporting a limited edition Fraternity Collection tank from Country Club Prep and an Express circle skirt. I absolutely love this tank. You can dress it up by matching it with a flirty skirt, or even just wear it as a cover-up to the beach. It is so comfortable and versatile! Also, I believe a black skirt is a closet essential. This Express skirt can flatter any one's figure and goes with basically everything. I sincerely hope that this weather continues on!

Summer Fever

Most like everybody else, I cannot wait for summer. After a year of AP's, papers, and exams, I am ready to lay back in a beach chair and curl up with a good book. And let's not forget sleeping in every day! In preparation for this year's summer, I've composed a list of my favorite tunes (some old, some new) that are perfect for sandy toes and coats sunblock.

"Best Day of My Life" by American Authors
One cannot get more upbeat or optimistic!

"Lip Gloss" by Lil Mama
When I first heard this song, I couldn't stand it. But recently it has resurfaced amongst my classmates, and I cannot get it out of my head!

"Africa" by Toto
I hadn't heard this one before this year, but now it is one of my favorites!

"Love is an Open Door" by Kristen Bell & Santino Fontana
I have definitely caught the Frozen-fever. I've always been a Disney fanatic, and Frozen completely captured my heart.

"Sing" by Ed Sheeran
Who couldn't love Ed Sheeran?

"Into the Ocean" by Blue October
I just can't stop listening to this!

"Beachin'" by Jake Owen
This is definitely my favorite song currently. My mom and I jam out whenever it comes on the radio. I'm predicting this will become THE summer song of 2014.

Have any favorite songs? Comment and let me know!

Party Like Gatsby

Last night was definitely one to remember. After months of planning the Senior's last hurrah before graduating, the Gatsby-themed night had finally arrived. This year, we were blessed with the opportunity to have our prom on a boat. Yes, a boat. Unfortunately, due to Florida's best monsoons and flooding, the night did not turned out as planned. We had to face scattered storms and frizzy hair. But still, we managed. It was a night full of dancing and partying like Gatsby.
